Left-hander
Frankie Klemm threw a four-hitter, striking out seven as COD defeated visiting Elgin Community College 5-2 in Saturday's opener. The Spartans came back in the second game with a 9-6 win.

Klemm settled down after Elgin took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. He did not allow a hit over the next four innings, retiring 10 consecutive batters entering the sixth.

At the plate,
Seth Borden tied the game with a solo home run over the left-center field wall. The Chaps batted around in the fourth, scoring three runs on three hits.
Zion Baker drove in
Jimmy Heintz on a single up the middle, and Borden and
Jack Oberli earned RBIs on back-to-back bases-loaded walks.

Borden earned his third RBI with a sac fly to left that brought in Baker.

Nick Fushi went 2-for-2 off the bench with a pair of singles.

In the second game, the Chaps led 6-2 through six innings, but the Spartans rallied with a seven-run seventh and secured the split.

Jack Oberli, Borden and Fushi all homered for the Chaps.

Zak Fischer was outstanding in his start for the Chaps. He struck out a career-high 10 and gave up just two hits in 5 1/3 innings.
