Chaps power past Gogebic

The Chaps made their home debut Saturday and proved their strength by overwhelming visiting Gogebic (Mich.) Community College, taking the doubleheader 9-1 and 17-0.
 
The victories pushed the Chaps' record to 5-1 overall as they now play at Moraine Valley on Wednesday and return home Thursday against Kankakee.
 
Worth noting: Gogebic, located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, traveled more than 400 miles Saturday morning for the doubleheader.
 
Game 1: Chaps 9, Gogebic 1
Highlights
  • Vincenza Zaccaro drilled the left-field scoreboard for a two-run HR in the third
  • Zaccaro's home capped a six-run third inning
  • Lauren Onnezi hit a two-run triple in the third
  • Carolynn Keleher led with a 3-for-3 effort that included a triple
  • Amber Dasenbrock had two hits including a triple
  • Keleher and Dasenbrock each had two RBI
  • On the mound, Eiermann went the distance with three strikeouts and allowing just three hits

  • The game was the third time that COD scored more than 10 runs
  • The Chaps connected on 16 hits (7 extra-base hits)
  • Hanah Nickrand had two triples and totaled four RBI
  • The Chaps' output included a seven-run, five-hit first inning, and an eight-run, nine-hit third
  • Dasenbrock threw a one-hitter with nine strikeouts, and her only hit allowed was in the first inning
  • At the plate, Dasenbrock had a two-run triple
  • Paige Jahaske led with three hits
  • Carlee Baker, Eiermann, Dasenbrock, Zaccaro, Nickrand all finished with two hits
