Kankakee answers back Chaps

Monday afternoon proved to be a tough day for the Chaparrals, who were dealt a pair of defeats at host Kankakee in Region 4 baseball.

Anthony Perez's two-run homer in the first and three RBI from Giovanni Lopez keyed the Chaps in their 11-10 loss in nine innings. And in the second game that was called after six innings due to darkness, the Chaps' Cliff Vickers drove in six runs with three triples on a 4-for-5 day in a 12-11 defeat.

The Chaps, now 5-13 overall, play host to the Roosevelt JV on Thursday. First pitch is 1:30 p.m.

Game 1: Kankakee 11, Chaps 10, 9 innings
The Chaps led 6-0 and held a 10-9 advantage, couldn't hold back the Cavaliers, who tied the game in the seventh, and then earned the walk-off victory in the ninth. Vickers, Perez and Lopez all had two hits, but the Chaps had just one extra-base hit from their nine-hit total. Reliever Seth Borden struck out five in 3 2/3 innings of relief.

Game 2: Kankakee 12, Chaps 11 6 innings
All six of Vickers' RBI were scored from his three-triple game, but the Chaps were undone when Kankakee overcame an 11-4 deficit with eight runs in the sixth. Jack Oberli also tripled for the Chaps. Starter Mike Sullivan struck out eight in four innings. Both Oberli and Lopez had two hits.
