Carl Sandburg, Illinois Central weekend

The No. 5 Chaparrals routed host Carl Sandburg 8-0 and 7-3 in Region 4 softball Friday, before dropping a doubleheader at Division II member Illiinois Central, 10-1 and 16-5 on Sunday.
 
COD (13-7, 4-0 N4C) plays Morton on Wednesday and returns to N4C play Thursday at Joliet.
 
Carl Sandburg series
Amber Dasenbrock and Paige Jahaske combined on a 4-hit shutout in the 8-0 win, along with Nicole Brace, Carlee Baker and Jahaske each driving in two runs in the opener. Brace had an RBI double in the first for the Chaps' only extra-base hit. Kelsey Warren and Baker each had two hits. In the second game, the Chaps scored four runs on four hits in the ninth to secure the sweep.Baker and Ashley Eiermann both had three hits, and Warren contributed two hits. Dasenbrock went the distance, striking out eight.
 
Illinois Central series
The Chaps were limited to six singles in the opener and scored their only run in the fifth, an RBI single by Jahaske. Dasenbrock struck out three. Eiermann and Gianna Maida both homered in the second game that was called after five innings. Miaida had two hits.
