Pomatto keeps winning streak alive

Nolan Pomatto's walk-off single brought in the winning run as the Chaparrals swept Rock Valley 14-4 in 5 innings and 6-5 in 8 innings in Monday's N4C and Region 4 doubleheader.

The victory was COD's seventh straight — all at home — and pushed their overall record to 20-17 and 6-2 in the N4C. The seven victories were won by an average of eight runs as the Chaps now make their stretch drive toward the Region 4 playoffs that begin next month.

The Chaps are at Triton on Tuesday and return home Thursday against Bay College of Escanaba, Mich., on Thursday.

Game 1: Chaps 14, Rock Valley 4 5 innings
The Chaps batted around twice — in the third and fifth innings in the game called due to the 10-run rule. Leading 6-4 entering their half of the fifth, the Chaps struck with an eight-run, six-hit inning. Mike Wagner led off with a solo home run, and 10 batters later, Jack Oberli's three-run triple ended the game. Oberli was a home run short of the cycle, and he followed Wagner's homer with a double in the decisive fifth. Cliff Vickers, Anthony Perez, and Pomatto all doubled, while Wagner added a triple. On the mound, RHP Zak Fischer struck out four and scattered six hits for the win.

Game 2: Chaps 6, Rock Valley 5 8 innings
The Chaps, who trailed 5-0 early, fought back and tied the game in the sixth, thanks to a long, flyball by Cliff Vickers to left. The ball was misjudged, and both Nick Fushi and Vickers came in to score. Both teams failed to score in the seventh, and the Chaps made the Golden Eagles pay in the eighth. Dan Gusel led off with a single, and reached second on a stolen base. Pomatto ripped a one-out shot for the game-winner and the team erupted in celebration toward first. Pomatto went 2-for-4
