Game 3 awaits Chaparrals

Coach Ryan Connell's team was pushed to a deciding Game 3 in NJCAA Region IV Division III tournament play against Joliet College on Friday.
 
The Chaps took the opener 7-5, and dropped the second game, 18-8, forcing a deciding game in the best-of-three series against the Wolves.
 
Saturday's game has been pushed back to 3 p.m.
 
The Chaps/Wolve winner moves on to face six-time defending national champion Rock Valley for the regional title and right to advance to the national championship tournament, set for May 27-29 in Syracuse, N.Y.
 
Game 1: Chaps 7, Joliet 5
The Chaps jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, A two-out ground ball from Vincenza Zaccarro scored Kelsey Warren, who led off the game with a double. Carlee Baker singled in Amber Dasenbrock, who reached on an error. Sydney Sturino's ripped a double to center that brought in Zaccaro.
 
Leading 3-1 through three, Gianna Maida's RBI double scored Sturino, and two batters later, Ashley Eiermann's grounder scored Maida.
 
In the sixth, Eiermann (single) and Dasenbrock (double) plated run-scoring hits to account for COD's final runs.
 
Warren led with a 4-for-4 day and two runs scored. Baker and Sturino each had two hits.
 
Dasenbrock went the distance on the mound, striking out four and not issuing a walk.
 
Game 2: Joliet 18, Chaps 8 5 innings
The Chaps were within distance of the Wolves, trailing 10-8 after their at-bat in the fourth inning. Joliet then struck with an eight-run fourth to put the game away.
 
Dasenbrock drove in three with two hits, and Warren also had two hits.
