The Chaparrals opened their 2021 season this past weekend, taking two of five matches at the McHenry County Classic played in Rockford.

COD (2-3 overall) makes its home debut Tuesday night against Illinois Valley, and follows with a home match Thursday night against Oakton. Both matches begin at 6 p.m. at the Physical Education Arena.

Southwestern Illinois 3, Chaparrals 1
Grace Franz led the Chaps with 13 kills, and
Alyssa Fountain and
Emily DeBlecourt each had four service aces in the Chaps' 18-25, 25-20, 17-25, 25-27 opening match loss.
Olivia Witek led in blocks with six and Fountain and
Ava Garcia each had five.
Hanah Friel dealt 22 assists and Jordan Stammeyer led in digs with 15.

Chaparrals 3, Lake Michigan 0
The Chaps hit a collective .235 with 31 kills on just 12 attack errors in the straight set win over the Red Hawks (25-9, 25-15, 25-19). COD was solid on the receive, delivering 11 service aces. DeBlecourt led in kills with 10 and Fountain followed with nine. Stammeyer had eight aces, five assist and nine digs. Garcia led in blocks with four.

Glen Oaks 3, Chaparrals 2
The five-set match went against the Chaps, who lost 20-25, 25-23, 25-27, 25-22, 12-15. They totaled 69 points, thanks Franz, who led with 19 kills. Fountain and DeBlecourt joined Franz in double-figure kills with 10 each. Stammeyer keyed the Chaps' 14-ace effort with a team-high seven. Fountain had three and DeBlecourt two. Garcia totaled four blocks and Witek and Franz had three apiece. Stammeyer had 19 digs with Fountain contributing 11 and Franz 10.

Thirteen service aces — with Stammeyer delivering on seven — keyed the Chaps' attack against the Brainerd, Minn., college. Franz had eight kils and Friel set up the attack with 22 assists. Fountain had 11 digs, with Stammeyer (10) and Friel (9) and DeBlecort (9).

Highland dealt the Chaps a loss in their final match of the tourney — winning 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18.
