Mighty Mo serves Chaps

Box Score Momentum found its favor with the Chaparrals on Tuesday night, resulting in a 3-1 victory over visiting Illinois Valley in Region IV volleyball.

The Chaps earned their 25-10, 22-25, 25-12, 25-16 victory with 18 service aces and built considerable runs while improving to 3-3 overall.

"Limiting errors on serve-receive will result in sustaining runs and that played in our favor tonight,'' Chaps coach Tolis Koskinaris said. "I thought we fed off the momentum extremely well and earned a well-deserved win.''

Tied at 7-7 in the opening set, the Chaps finished off the Eagles on an 18-3 run for the win. After dropping the second set, COD built another run in the third, this time using a 13-5 swing to go up 2-1. And then in the fourth and tied at 11-11, the Chaps closed out the night on a 14-5 run.

Emily DeBlecourt and Hanah Friel each had five aces, and Grace Franz added four. On the attack, Jessica Juerke hit .533, thanks to her 10 kills, 2 errors in 15 attack effort.

"Everybody stepped up tonight, and a big part of that was playing at home for the first time in a long time,'' Koskinaris said. "We have a team that pulls together and we found our rhythm.''

Oakton match canceled
Due to COVID-19 protocols, Thursday night's home match against Oakton has been canceled. The Chaps are off until Aug. 31 when they play at Triton.
