No. 7 Chaps take to Lone Star State after 3-set win

Box Score Don't  look now, but the No. 7-ranked Chaparrals are going places — literally and figuratively.

Tuesday night, the Tolis Koskinaris-coached squad took a 3-0 victory over No. 9 Joliet — its second in three days against the Wolves on their home court.

On Sunday, it took five sets for the Chaps' conquest. This time, the Chaps and Wolves tugged in a classic three-set victory (25-23, 28-26, 25-14) that was as difficult a match as the Chaps have had this season.

Joliet held a 23-22 lead in the first, and was up set point in the second before the Chaps closed out with set winners in each.

"There wasn't more than a three-point lead by anyone in the first two sets,'' Koskinaris said. "We've played well and we've built upon the confidence of playing in 5-set matches and coming out on top. Success leads to success and our team has shown it.''

Freshman Grace Franz led the Chaps in kills Tuesday with 15 with Alyssa Fountain (14) and Emily DeBlecourt (12) also contributing double-digit kill efforts.

"Grace stepped up from Sunday and played very well,'' he said.

The Chaps step outside of region play this weekend when they play at the Blinn College Tourney in Brenham, Texas. They'll face the host school, ranked No. 3 in NJCAA Division 1 on Saturday.

"We want to build a nationally recognized program,'' Koskinaris said. "And playing a demanding schedule will help build our team for our stretch run in the second half of the season.''
