The Chaparrals, behind the stellar efforts of
Abram Ross and
Levi Bentsen, fell 68-64 at Kishwaukee College on Saturday in Region 4 men's basketball.
Ross scored a game-high 24 points with 13 rebounds and Bentsen had 21 points with five 3-pointers as the Chaps (4-8) lost their fourth straight game.
Charles Jelks scored eight and
Myles Rochell-Harris and
Joe Bell each had four.
COD fired 51 percent from the field on 17 of 33 shooting in the first half and led 38-37 at the break. The Chaps cooled off in the final 20 minutes, scoring just five goals in the final 10 minutes. The game was tied at 50 with 11:10 to go. Kishwaukee's Joseph Bocher hit consecutive field goals and the Kougars held on for the win.
Ross's jumper with 43 seconds left cut Kishwaukee's lead to 66-64, but Sean Etzkorn iced the game with a pair of free throws for the Kougars.
Kishwaukee outscored the Chaps 17-7 from the free throw line and gained the advantage late, hitting six straight free throws in the final 5:30.
The Chaps play host to Malcolm X on Tuesday at the PEC Arena. Tipoff is 6 p.m.
