Drew Gaston scored the Chaps' final six points inside the last minute of play as COD held off Madison College 63-61 in Region 4 men's play Tuesday night at the PEC Arena.
Â
The victory snapped the Chaps' six-game losing streak heading into Thursday's game at Harper.
Â
Gaston scored a game-high 26 points and was the man down the stretch for the Chaps.
Â
Trailing 60-57 with 1:16 to go, Gaston cut the WolfPack lead to one on a feed from
Donnell Fraley. COD forced two turnovers late, and with 15 seconds to go, the Chaps had the ball. Gaston drove the court, and laid up an off-balance shot on the right-side of the lane that dropped through and COD led 61-60 with 6 seconds.
Â
Madison then in-bounded under the Chaps' basket and a baseball pass found Malcom Reed under the basket with 1.5 seconds left. A foul was called on
Abram Ross, but Madison was called for a technical foul when its coaches went on the court to dispute the play.
Â
Gaston hit both free throws on the technical for a 63-60 lead, and then Reed went to the line for two shots. He hit the first, then forced an errant shot for a potential rebound, but time ran out and the Chaps had the win.
Â
Gaston played 39 minutes and was 9 of 16 from the field. Ross scored 15 and
Kaashif Malik had 12.
Â
Keith Hoffman and Trevor Liggins each led Madison (13-6 overall) with 15 points.
