College of DuPage went right down to the wire in Tuesday's home game against Elgin, but the Spartans held the upper hand in a 56-55 victory in Region 4 women's basketball.

COD, now 0-4 overall, remains home this week with games against Carl Sandburg (Thursday) and Wilbur Wright (Saturday).

Alyssa Havard led the Chaps with a 20-point, 11-rebound double-double and
Katlyn Allen and
Sierra Gibson each scored 10.
Mykah Berkompas scored nine points with eight rebounds and four assists and Gibson also dealt four assists.

The Chaps climbed back after trailing by eight in the first half, with a 15-9 outburst in the third quarter for a 39-38 lead entering the fourth quarter.

An Allen basket in the paint gave COD its largest lead of the night, 47-40 with 8:11 to go in the game.

But Elgin countered with a 10-1 run and led 50-48 with 2:48 left.

Trailing 56-53 with 1:35 to go, Allen's 3-pointer was off with seven seconds to go, but Havard collected the offensive board and scored on a put-back with two seconds left.

On the inbounds play, COD gathered a turnover from
Serenity McDaniel, whose successful attempt occurred after the horn sounded.
