Kendall Cross hit the second of a two-shot foul with three seconds remaining and the Chaparrals defeated host Morton College 62-61 in Region 4 men's play Tuesday night.

The Chaps overcame a 3-point deficit inside the final 10 seconds to improve to 5-5 overall heading into Thursday's game at Prairie State.

Trailing 61-58, sophomore
Drew Gaston hit a 3-pointer that tied the game at 61 with 6.2 seconds left. On Morton's next possession, Cross forced a steal and was fouled, heading to the line with time running out. Morton had a chance for the win, but a 3-pointer at the buzzer was unsuccessful.

Gaston led the Chaps with 22 points on 6 of 18 shooting with three 3s. He hit 7 of 8 free throws, and led in rebounds with eight.
C.J. Ward was next with nine points and
Gerald Tate added eight.

The Chaps, who led by as many as eight points after opening the game down 9-0, overcame a 46-37 rebound disadvantage with just 12 turnovers.

Matas Deksnys led Morton with 20 points. Amir Gause had 10 points with 19 rebounds.
