Road swing ends on a winning note

Box Score The season's longest set of consecutive road games came to an end Tuesday night as the Chaparrals earned a hard-fought 79-77 win at McHenry County in Region 4 men's play.

COD, now 6-7 overall, plays its final game of the month Thursday night against Prairie State.

Tipoff is 7 p.m.

The Chaps finished their six-game road swing on a strong note, thanks to Matt Elliott, who led with a game-high 23 points and Drew Gaston 20. Derome White added 15 with Gerald Tate 11, Kendall Cross 8 and Finn Walsh 2.

COD split its six road games, earning the praise from head coach Joe Kuhn.

"'Those are not easy places to win,'' he said. "First half, we shot the ball very well, and in the second, we overcame a little adversity when McHenry grabbing back the lead.''

The game was back-and-forth in the final six minutes before the Chaps pulled away.

"Finn Walsh played tremendous defense and rebounded well,'' Kuhn said. "As a team, our ability to get to the free throw line was big. We attacked to the basket and were aggressive. We're seeing some signs that we're playing like one of my normal teams.''

For McHenry, Quinton McCullough and Matthew Lesch each scored 18 points.
