An 18-6 run midway through the second was the difference maker in the Chaparrals' 78-61 loss at Rock Valley in Region 4 men's basketball Thursday night.
 
Freshman guard Drew Gaston led the Chaps with 14 points with Abram Ross (13) and Donnell Fraley (11) following up as COD dropped to 6-12 overall. The two teams face each other against tonight at COD with tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
 
The first half was a back-and-forth game with three lead changes and four ties before the host Golden Eagles got an advantage late and led 25-24 at the break.
 
Ross's layup pulled the Chaps to within basket (42-40) with 12:21 to go in the game. But Rock Valley responded on an 18-6 run over the next six minutes and pulled ahead 60-46 on a Jackson Copley 3-pointer with 6:04 left and Rock Valley remained comfortably ahead for the win.
 
COD shot 44.4 percent from the field on 28 of 63 shooting.
 
Rock Valley was led by Chris Burnell and Nick Pierson, who each scored 15 points.
