Joe Cosenza delivered a grand slam and
Dan Gusel also homered for the Chaps, who dropped an 8-5 game at Division I Kankakee College in Region 4 baseball Friday afternoon.

The Chaps (6-2) are off until Sunday when they are scheduled to play Bay College of Escanaba, Mich., at Carol Stream's Lee Pfund Field. First pitch is noon.

Three singles from
Carson Roberts,
Jeremy Conforti and
Cliff Vickers loaded the bases for Cosenza in the fourth and the Chaps trailing 1-0. The Downers Grove freshman lifted a shot to right that cleared the bases and the Chaps led 4-1.

The host Cavs answered with a run in the sixth before Gusel unloaded on a solo drive to center and COD led 5-2.

But Kankakee responded with a six-run, two-hit seventh that included a three-run homer from Joey Humphrey.

Cosenza, Gusel and Vickers paced the Chaps with two hits each as COD ended the game with 10 hits.

RHP
Seth Borden gave the Chaps six innings in his start. He struck out five, walked five and allowed two runs —  both earned.
