No. 8 Chaps swept at Triton

No. 8 (NJCAA Division III) College of DuPage got off-track Tuesday in its doubleheader at Division II Triton, losing 4-2 and 5-2 to the Trojans at Symonds-Puckett Field.
 
The losses snapped COD's winning streak at four games and it will take a 14-6 overall record into Friday's home doubleheader against Bryant & Stratton.
 
Game 1: Triton 5, Chaparrals 4 8 innings
  • Held to just two hits
  • Left 16 runners on base
  • Scored four runs – all unearned -- on two hits in the fourth for a 4-1 lead
  • Cliff Vickers led off the fourth with a single to right
  • Four batters later, David Marshall drove in two on an infield fielder's choice
  • Carson Roberts added a two-out, two-run single to left
  • RHP Justin Lane gave COD five innings, struck out two and walked three
  • Reliever Evan Ryan struck out three in 2 2/3 innings and took the hard-luck loss in the 8th
 
Game 2: Triton 5, Chaparrals 2
  • Down 2-0, Anthony Perez stopped the shut-out bid with an RBI fielder's choice to shortstop in the second
  • The Chaps threatened in the fourth with the bases loaded and two outs but came up empty
  • Joe Cosenza added an RBI-double to center in the sixth
  • The Chaps totaled five hits
  • COD batters struck out 12 times and left 10 runners on base
  • RHP Joe Titone threw 3 2/3 innings in his start and had two strikeouts
