A five-run fifth inning placed the No. 8-ranked Chaparrals in contention against visiting Bryant & Stratton, but it wasn't enough in a 9-7 loss to the Bobcats in a game that was called in the seventh due to rain Thursday.
 
The Chaps and Bobcats had their second game of the doubleheader then cancelled.
 
COD (14-7 overall) take on Joliet on Saturday in a key N4C doubleheader. First pitch is noon.
 
Trailing 8-2 entering their half of the fifth, the Chaps climbed back, thanks to their five-run, three-hit, two-error effort. They sent nine batters to the plate and got things going on Jeremy Conforti's RBI-double that scored David Marshall, who led off with a single. Carson Robert followed with another RBI-double, and two batters later, Joe Cosenza delivered on an infield pop-up error that scored two run and COD trailed 8-6.
 
Joe Steiner followed on an infield ground ball that was mishandled by the second baseman, scoring Cosenza and the Chaps trailed 8-7.
 
Kyle Fenner led off with a solo homer in the first.
 
The Chaps totaled six hits.
