Untimely hitting costs Chaps vs. Joliet

The No. 8-ranked Chaparrals had trouble at the plate Saturday, dropping a doubleheader at Joliet 5-2 and 9-8.

COD, now 14-9 overall, is at North Central on Tuesday to play its junior varsity team. The Chaps are at home Wednesday (vs. College of Lake County) and Thursday (Kankakee College).

Game 1: Joliet 5, Chaps 2
Jeremy Conforti's run-scoring double placed the Chaps with 1-0 lead in the first, but the host Wolves answered back with two runs in each of the first two innings and never trailed for the victory. The Chaps totaled five hits with doubles from Carson Roberts and David Marshall. COD scored its final run on an infield ground-out in the fifth. It was a difficult day at the plate as the Chaps struck out nine times. LHP Frankie Klemm took the loss, despite striking out six in 5 2/3 innings.

Game 2: Joliet 9, Chaps 8
COD held an 8-6 lead, but Joliet's Dolan Glasgow hit a one-out, three-run double to left for the walk-off victory. The Chaps, who trailed 5-2 after five, seemingly earned control with a five-run, two-hit sixth. A bases-loaded walk to David Marshall cut the deficit to two, and two batters later, Anthony Perez hit a fly ball that was misplayed by the right fielder, scoring two runs to tie the game at 5-5. A.J. Taylor then added a two-run single and COD led 7-5. Joliet added a run in the sixth before COD took the 8-6 lead on an unearned run scored by Jeremy Conforti when Marshall reached on an error at first base. The Chaps were undone by striking out 11 times — six looking. Conforti, who doubled twice, had four of the Chaps' eight hits.
