Quality pitching from
Elena Stevenson and
Amber Dasenbrock prohibited Morton's offense from getting on track and
Alyssa Vansickle homered in each game as the Chaparrals swept their foe 8-1 and 8-0 in Region 4 softball Wednesday afternoon at Sark Park.
Â
The Chaps, now 9-13 overall, play host to College of Lake County on Friday with first pitch at 3 p.m.
Â
Game 1: Chaps 8, Morton 1
The Chaps totaled 13 hits and scored five runs in the sixth to gain the advantage. Vansickle's 3-run homer in the sixth was the difference maker and she added a leadoff double in the second.
Gianna Maida led with three hits, while
Vincenza Zaccaro and
Carlee Baker each had two hits with a double. On the mound, Stevenson gave the Chaps an outstanding effort, striking out seven without issuing a walk.

Game 2: Chaps 8, Morton 0
Vansickle continued her hot-hitting from the opener, going 3-for-3 with a solo homer in the second and a run-scoring single in the fourth. Her efforts keyed an 11-hit attack that was more than enough to aid RHP
Amber Dasenbrock. Stevenson joined Vansickle with three hits, and she also drove in two runs. Baker added to the offensive attack with two hits. Dasenbrock went the distance with a four-hit shutout, striking out seven and issuing one walk.
