Chaps dealt walk-off defeat

Lucas Hansen drove in four runs on two hits and the Chaps rallied late, but couldn't hang on in a 9-8 loss at Elgin in Region IV baseball Monday afternoon.

The Chaps, now 18-10 overall, remain in Kane County today when they play at Waubonsee. First pitch for the doubleheader is 2 p.m.

COD, which trailed 5-2 after six innings, got back into the game on the strength of a five-run seventh. It sent 10 batters to the plate with four hits. David Marshall (sac fly) and A.J. Taylor (double) each drove in a run, and Hansen delivered on a two-run double that gave COD a 6-5 lead. The Chaps extended the lead on an RBI-single from Ben Steiner.

But the Spartans responded in the eighth with three runs on just one hit for an 8-7 lead.

In the ninth, Kyle Fenner scored on an infield groundout from Hansen and tied the game at 8-8.

Elgin earned the walk-off win with three hits on one out.

Cam Bailey joined Hansen with two hits. Anthony Perez contributed a triple.
