The Chaparrals scored six unanswered runs and went to defeat Harper 9-5 in the Region 4 baseball opener Thursday afternoon in Milwaukee.

COD went on to defeat second-seed Milwaukee Area TC 8-7 to take an unbeaten slate into Friday's game against Oakton. The tourney shifts to Joliet for the remainder of the weekend.

Trailing 1-0 after two innings, the Chaps took control with a three-run third, a two-run fourth and a run in the fifth for a commanding 6-1 lead.

In the second, COD scored its runs thanks to a five-hit inning, capped by an RBI-double from
Jeremy Conforti and
Jason Cousineau followed with a run-scoring single. Two runs scored on a
David Marshall bunt that was misplayed in the fourth, and
Kyle Fenner answered with an RBI-double in the fifth.

Marshall keyed the Chaps' seventh with a two-run single and Cousineau homered in the eighth.

The Chaps had 17 hits and were led by Fenner, who had three hits.

Anthony Raineri danced out of trouble in his sixth innings. He struck out eight, but issued seven walks. Harper stranded 29 runners on base and four errors.

COD took advantage scoring four unearned runs for the game and won despite striking out 14 times against four MATC pitchers.

COD, which trailed 2-1 after four innings, took the lead in the fifth, beginning with two unearned runs, and then the heart of the lineup came through.
Jeremy Conforti's triple to center scored
Carson Roberts. After a
Jason Cousineau walk,
Joe Cosenza drove in Conforti with a double to left.
Cliff Vickers was intentionally walked to load the bases for
Cam Bailey, who connected on an RBI-single to right and COD led 6-2.

Kyle Fenner then hit into a double play that brought in Cosenza.

Taylor scored on a wild pitch in the sixth for an 8-4 lead.

COD led 8-6 entering the ninth and MATC loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning with no outs. Chaps reliever
Seth Borden struck out Julian Jimenez, and then allowed a sac fly that brought the Stormers to within a run and runners eventually reached second and third. Borden ended the game when he struck out Daniel Flores on a foul tip.
