Chaps sweep up the road

The Chaparrals delivered their third consecutive road doubleheader sweep, taking an 18-7 and 11-7 set from host Sauk Valley in Region IV baseball Sunday afternoon.

COD, now 22-11 overall, looks to make it four straight twin-bill road sweeps as it heads to Milwaukee Area TC for an N4C doubleheader today.

Game 1: Chaps 18, Sauk Valley 7 5 innings
Coach Bobby Wilson's team got going immediately, scoring eight runs on four hits and sending 13 to the plate. Cliff Vickers and Jeremy Conforti each had two-run singles to boost the Chaps to an insurmountable early lead. A Carson Roberts two-run single in the fourth gave the Chaps their largest lead of the game at 16-2 and A.J. Taylor added a solo shot in the fifth. Conforti drove in four runs with three hits and Taylor and Cam Bailey each had two hits. Freshman RHP Justin Lane took advantage of his 8-run lead in the first, striking out seven in four innings.

Game 2: Chaps 11, Sauk Valley 7
A five-run seventh broke a 6-6 tie for the Chaps, who needed just seven hits for the victory. COD scored four runs in the fourth, led by Vickers' one-out, two-run single for a 4-1 lead. The game was tied at 4-4 in the fifth, and 6-6 in the sixth before COD gained control. Kyle Fenner's one-out single broke the tie, and a bases-loaded walk to Nolan Pomatto gave COD an 8-6 lead. Anthony Perez followed with a three-run double and COD led 11-6. Both Vickers, who had a double, and Pomatto had two hits apiece. Anthony Raineri struck out four in five innings, and Evan Ryan earned the victory with his one inning of relief.
