A 42-0 victory for top-ranked College of DuPage over Hocking College last Saturday was a first on the year in terms of efficiency.
Â
"It was the first complete game we played on the year,'' said head coach
Matthew Rahn. "Our defense did its thing and they have proven to be the backbone of our team. And our offense was far more efficient than we had played to this point.
Â
"It was a win that we can build upon.''
Â
The Chaps built a 28-0 halftime lead, and then padded the score with two TDs in the final quarter.
Â
COD's ground game was the difference maker. Quarterback
Gavin Sukup scored a pair of touchdowns, with running backs
Samson Zander,
Randy Young and
Brian Trobel each scoring once.
Â
Zander ran for 112 yards on just seven carries
Â
Defensive back
Isaac Martinez scored the Chaps' other TD with a 52-yard interception return.
Â
"Our defense took away their run early, and forced them into some tough situations in their passing game,'' Rahn said. "We were physical early on and did a nice job of carrying it through for the entire game.''
Â
Defensive lineman
Byron Puryear earned NJCAA National Player of the Week honors for his efforts. The Chicago native had four solo tackles with three tackles for loss and one QB sack.
Â
The Chaps are at home Saturday against Christian Community College. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
