For just the second time this season the No. 2-ranked Chaparrals played an extended home match Thursday, defeating Triton 3-1 in Region 4 volleyball.
Â
Sophomore
Chloey Myers led the way with 17 kills and
Alyssa Fountain reached double figures, too, with 13 in COD's 25-14, 25-19, 25-27, 25-17 victory over the Trojans. The win pushed COD's record to 17-2 and kept them unbeaten in Region 4 play in four matches.
Â
The Chaps dominated in the first set and pushed to a 2-0 lead in the second after trailing 7-1. After a COD timeout, the Chaps produced a 10-1 run and went on to the set win.
Â
In the third, eight ties occurred beginning at 12-12 and the Chaps couldn't put away the Tritons when they forged ahead 25-24. Triton earned sideout and ended the Chaps' threat at a sweep with three successive points to pull within a point of the match.
Â
In the fourth, COD grabbed an 11-5 lead and increased it to a nine-point margin (17-8).
Â
The Chaps totaled 16 service aces with Fountain leading with four.
Abigail Alonzo, Myers and setter
Payton Litney each had three.
Â
Litney set up with 39 assists. Fountain led in digs with 19 and Myers had 15.
Â
COD remains home next week when it takes on Harper on Sept. 27.
