No. 1 Chaps rout Waubonsee

Box Score A nine-day break for the top-ranked team in Division III didn't seem to matter much as the Chaps defeated visiting Waubonsee 3-0 in Region 4 volleyball Tuesday night.

The Chaps pushed their unbeaten streak to 12 matches as they now prepare for a Sept. 13 match at Madison.

COD controlled in its 25-13, 25-21, 25-9 victory over the Chiefs. In the opening set, the Chaps and Chiefs were tied at 8-8 before COD got rolling. Chloey Myers served six straight points after COD earned side-out and the Chaps remained out front for the set win.

In the second, the set was back-and-forth and neither team gained an edge until COD broke through with the set tied at 20. A three-point run brought a Chiefs timeout, but it was more than enough margin for the victory.

And in the third, COD scored six straight points to lead 11-5 and the set and match was never in doubt.

"I think our break played into losing a bit of our speed after the first two weeks,'' Chaps head coach Tolis Koskinaris said. "We broke out and found our gear tonight, but it took until the third for us to find it.''

Alyssa Fountain led the Chaps in kills with 12 and Olivia Witek added eight. Both Jaiden Tan and Myers had three service aces apiece.

The straight-set victory was COD's eighth in the season.

"The strong suit has been our serving,'' Koskinaris said. "We're at about a 90-percent clip and that's tough to beat.''
