A quick spurt in the final minute of play in the first half gave visiting Joliet momentum and the Chaps could not find an answer in a 79-61 loss in Region 4 women's play Tuesday night.
Â
The Chaps, now 3-11 and 3-10 in region play, take on Madison College on the road Thursday night with a 7:30 p.m. start.
Â
The first half was a back-and-forth game, with COD using a 12-2 run in the first quarter for a 19-13 lead midway through the quarter. Joliet answered right back and led 22-21 at the end of the quarter.
Â
JJC pushed its lead to 42-31, courtesy of a 13-2 run with 3:19 left, but COD fought back and pulled to within three on
Sierra Gibson's basket with 1:20 left and the Chaps down, 43-40.
Â
But the key to the game belonged to the Wolves in the final minute of the half. Dan'Yale Thompson and Josey Ocampo each hit uncontested 3-pointers and JJC led 49-40.
Â
JJC led by as many as 20 in the third.
Â
Gibson led the Chaps with 18 points and
Korriana Wilson had 15.
Alyssa Havard was the only other Chap in double figures with 10.
Â
"We have to learn to play with energy the entire game,'' Chaps coach
Abigail Talley said. "Those 3s at the end of the half cost us and we never got back into the game. They shot the ball well (42 percent through three quarters) and we had an off night. Playing from behind takes a toll.''
