COD earned a one-sided 92-69 victory Tuesday night over Harper, dominating the glass and possessions in Region 4 men's play at PEC Arena.
Â
The Chaparrals (10-8 overall) got 16 points from
Alijah Nelson as six Chaps scored in double figures. Shamaree Brown and
Jacob Lim each had 12,
Matt Elliott 11 and
Drew Gaston and
Derome White with 10 each.
Â
COD finished the first half on a 16-5 run that gave them a 42-30 halftime lead.
Â
Harper pulled to within seven early in the second half, but Brown — a running back for the NJCAA champions — threw down consecutive dunks and Harper never got closer than 10 in the final 16 minutes of play.
Â
COD totaled 60 rebounds with 29 on the offensive end. The Chaps finished 39 of 90 from the floor and generated offense from their 18 steals. They turned the ball over just 11 times and scored 24 second-chance points.
Â
"They didn't have enough fire power to come back after Brown's dunks,'' Chaps coach
Joe Kuhn said. "Anytime you can make some tough, excitement-type plays like Shamaree, it's going to give you a big lift. Shamaree and Kam (Gothard, another gridiron Chap) give us an added look because of their strength and toughness. It gives multiple looks and an added presence underneath. Tonight, we got to 10-8 on the season and we're taking steps forward. Alijah played well as did Matt (Elliott). We had a decent floor game with the added dimension of board work. I also thought Derome was really good tonight. We'll have a tough one Thursday (vs. Milwaukee Area TC).''
