Katlyn Allen keyed the Chaparrals in the third quarter and the they went on to defeat visiting Madison College 71-61 in Region 4 women's basketball Tuesday night.

The Chaps, who have now won seven of their last eight games including a forfeit victory, improved to 10-12 overall and 4-1 against in-region D3 opponents. They complete D3 regular-season play Thursday at Harper.

Sierra Gibson led the Chaps with 21 points and Allen added 17 points with 11 rebounds. Koriana Wilson (12) and
Mykah Berkompas (11) also reach double figures.

The Chaps, who trailed 17-15 through one quarter, gained command with a 21-9 effort in the second quarter. Gibson had 10 points in the second, capped by a basket as time ran out for a 36-26 halftime lead.

The WolfPack, which never led in the second half, rallied by outscoring COD 9-2 after trailing 47-37 with 5:48 left in the third.

Allen then got going, with a 3-pointer, a field goal, two free throws and another basket to push the Chaps' lead up, 58-46 with 17 seconds left.

COD never led the lead dip below eight in the final quarter.
