The Chaparrals put a premium on production in Thursday's season opener against Judson JV, gaining a 30-point lead in the first 10 minutes of play in their 88-53 win at PEC Arena.
Â
Sophomore John Gray led the Chaps in scoring with a game-high 20 points, and freshman
Braylen Meredith followed with 18 points on 9 of 11 shooting.
Â
Jayden Dean earned a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists, and
Tylon Toliver reached double figures with 10.
Â
"Our guys really set the tone in the first five minutes,'' head coach
Joe Kuhn said. "We moved the ball well, created shots and had several clean looks. We had well-rounded scoring.''
Â
The Chaps shot 54 percent from the floor (34-for-63), and hit 9 of 27 from 3-point land.
Â
Reserve
Michael Glover led off the glass with eight rebounds (five offensive) along with seven points in just 11 minutes.
Â
COD led throughout and held at least a 10-point lead for most of the game.
Â
"Once you have a big lead, you do have a tendency to lose your edge,'' Kuhn said. "We had a pretty solid second half and got a lot of people involved tonight.''
Â
COD is off until Thursday when it plays host to Richard A. Daley.
