Chaps face tough task with McHenry County

Freshman Braylen Meredith led the Chaparrals with 18 points and three others scored in double figures, but visiting McHenry County Community College took control late in the first half and went on to defeat the Chaps 101-78 in Region 4 men's basketball Tuesday night.
 
COD, now 5-4 overall, returns to Region 4 play Thursday night when its plays host to Illinois Valley. Tipoff is 6 p.m.
 
The Chaparrals led early, taking advantage with a 15-5 lead just under five minutes into the game. But the Scots climbed back, thanks to a 16-0 run that began with 6:22 to go in the half and COD up 26-22. Three minutes later, COD trailed 38-26 and the Chaps never got closer than four points of the lead — 56-52 — with 15 minutes left in the game.
 
Meredith hit 8 of 14 field goals along with three rebounds. Tylon Tolliver added 16 points (6 of 6 FTs), John Gray III scored 14 with five rebounds and Alecio Bonner scored a season-high 11 with four rebounds.
 
Anthony Lieuwen and James Muse tied for game-high scoring honors for the Scots (6-3) with 21 each.
