Chaps succeed on Sophomore Night

It's a good sign when every dressed player earns a spot in the scoring margin.

Led by Drew Gaston's 15 points, College of DuPage never trailed in Thursday's 97-60 win over visiting Truman in Region 4 play at PEC Arena.

The Chaparrals (16-13 overall) scored eight 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 13 in a game where the Falcons dipped below the Chaps' double-digit lead just once in the final 30 minutes of play.

"We are playing our best ball of the season at the right time of year,'' Chaps head coach Joe Kuhn said. "We were unselfish, we had clear look after clear look all night.''

Finn Walsh, Alijah Nelson, Matt Elliott and Jacob Lim all scored 10 points and Elliott and Walsh each earned double-doubles with 10 rebounds apiece for COD, which has won three straight and six of its last eight.

Walsh added seven assists to his night and sophomore Kaashif Malik had a sound all-round game off the bench with nine points, five rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and two steals.

"We started hitting some shots and fed the ball around well,'' Kuhn said. "Finn's improvement in the last few weeks has really set him apart. I'm so proud of him and happy for kids who work hard and put the time in to their game. It's paying off.''

The Chaps honored their six sophomores — Elliott, Malik, Gerald Tate,  Gaston, Lim and Walsh — and manager Antonio Rodriguez in a pregame ceremony.

COD completes the regular season Sunday morning at home against Aurora JV. Tip is 11 a.m.
