The Chaparrals closed their regular season Sunday with an 86-74 win over the Aurora JV in men's basketball.
Â
COD, winners of a season-best four game winning streak, take its 17-13 record into Friday night's Region 4 Tournament opener against host Joliet with an 8 p.m. tip.
Â
Drew Gaston led the Chaps with 21 points and now needs 29 points to become just the sixth Chaparral to score 1,000 points in their career. He would become the first to hit the mark since Tim Niles closed his career in 2008 with 1,039 points.
Â
COD built a lead as large as 23 points in the second half and coasted to the victory.
Â
"A great way to end the regular season,'' head coach
Joe Kuhn said. "We've won seven of our last 10, four in a row, and it seems that the light has finally clicked on for us. We had tremendous intensity on the defensive end all game, and that fed into our offensive output.''
Â
The Chaps' 17 victories are their most since the 2015-16 season.
Â
Matt Elliott,
Finn Walsh,
Gerald Tate and
Derome White each scored 12 points.
