Right-hander Michael Betancourt struck out eight in 5-plus innings, but visiting Waubonsee benefited on Garret Peters' three-run home run in the sixth as the Chiefs defeated the Chaparrals 4-1 in Region 4 play Sunday afternoon.
 
Inclement weather postponed the second game of the scheduled doubleheader with the Chaps leading 6-1 entering the bottom of the third inning. The game will be picked up April 16 at Waubonsee with a seven-inning game to follow.
 
In the opener, COD tied the game at 1-1 in the third on A.J. Taylor's deep sacrifice fly to center that scored Shane Baumgarten, who led off the inning with a walk.
 
Betancourt gave up four hits with six strikeouts through five. Waubonsee got runners on first and second with one out, leading to Peters' three-run shot to left.
 
Relievers Ryne Willard and Jake Spotofora each threw a strikeout.
 
COD, now 10-4 overall, had just three hits off Chiefs' RHP Brian Wrenn — singles from Kyle Fenner, Jason Cousineau and Filip Milatovic.
