No. 15 Chaps take 2 from Moraine Valley

No. 15 College of DuPage totaled 27 runs in 13 innings of play Thursday and earned a doubleheader sweep over visiting Moraine Valley, winning 16-6 in 6 innings and 11-7 in the nightcap.
 
The Chaparrals, now 19-7 overall, take on No. 10 Joliet (23-14) this afternoon in a key Region 4 D3 and N4C doubleheader at COD. First pitch is 2 p.m.
 
Game 1: Chaps 16, Moraine Valley 6 6 innings
  • A.J. Taylor led the way with a lead-off homer in the first and followed with two doubles and a triple
  • Jason Cousineau keyed a three-run 5th with a two-run homer and finished with a 4-for-4 game (double)
  • Joe Cosenza went yard on a three-run dinger in the fourth
  • Cosenza totaled four RBI
  • Filip Milatovic ended the game on a walk-off solo shot with one out in the sixth
  • David Marshall and Taylor each scored four runs
  • RHP Joe Seiber struck out seven and walked two in four innings, overcoming a six-run second by the Cyclones
  • Cade Cory struck out two in his one inning of relief
 
Game 2: Chaps 11, Moraine Valley 8
  • COD scored in each inning, with two, three-run innings for a come-from-behind win
  • The Chaps overcame Moraine Valley's seven-run second and trailed 7-1 entering their half of the second
  • Cousineau connected on a two-run homer in the third
  • Fenner went 2-for-4 with a two-run triple in the fifth
  • Cousineau earned a bases-loaded walk in the fourth
  • Jake Spotofora earned the victory in 3 1/3 innings of relief
  • The RHP had five strikeouts and gave up just one run (earned)
