Early deficits cost Chaps

No. 15 College of DuPage found itself trailing early in both games of Friday's doubleheader against visting No. 10 Joliet and dropped both games of an N4C doubleheader, 6-3 and 6-4.

The Chaps (19-9 overall) take on Olive-Harvey at home Tuesday with first pitch at 2 p.m.

Game 1: Joliet 6, Chaparrals 3
  • The Wolves grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first, thanks to their five-hit inning off starter Justin Lane
  • A.J. Taylor cut the deficit to 4-1 on an RBI-single in the second
  • Down 6-1, the Chaps scored twice in the seventh
  • Aden Aukland's two-out double scored Kyle Fenner (single)
  • Aukland then scored on Joe Cosenza's single
  • Taylor, Cosenza and Filip Milatovic all had two hits
  • Lane struck out five in five innings
  • All six Wolves runs were earned
Game 2: Joliet 6, Chaparrals 4
  • JJC took the lead early and never trailed, scoring three runs in the first
  • Jason Cousineau delivered an infield ground-out that scored Taylor, who opened the first with a double
  • Taylor drove in Cosenza on a fielder's choice in the second
  • Down 6-2, pinch-hitter Ashton Gates' sac fly to right scored Cousineau in the sixth
  • In the seventh, David Marshall's two-out double scored Fenner, who reached on a single
  • Cousineau sent a deep shot to right that potentially would have tied the game, but the ball was caught at the warning track
  • LHP Josh Culbertson threw four innings, striking out six and walking three
