College of DuPage entered play as the No. 4 seed in the NJCAA Men's Volleyball Invitational, and after the opening day of play, the Chaparrals will take the fourth seed into Saturday's final play.

The Chaps defeated Union County 3-0 in their opener, dropped a 3-1 decision to top-seed Monroe College and were dealt a 3-1 loss to fellow Region 4 member Bryant & Stratton.

COD (7-10 overall) takes on fifth-seed Ocean County at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The tourney's title match will be played at 4 p.m.

"On the whole, I thought we showed some of our best volleyball of the season,'' head coach Tolis Kosinaris said. "We pushed Monroe and that took quite a bit out of us entering the final match of the day. Unforced errors cost us. We'll rebound tonight and get after it tomorrow.''

Chaps 3, Union 1 (25-23, 25-15, 25-16)
- The Chaps hit .283 (44 kills/16 errors/99 attacks) in their 3-set win
- Mike Fenley led in kills with 15 and hit .440 (15/4/25)
- Bo Parker had nine kills and hit .375
- Phurin Kosumpiinun led in assists (31)
- Fenley had six service aces with just four service errors
- Blake Huberty had three aces
- Defensively, Parker and John Valencia each had 11 digs

- The Chaps out-hit the Mustangs, .296 to .292
- A phenomenal .385 average in the opener gave COD a 1-0 lead
- Michael Lipowski and Phurin Kosumpiinun each had eight kills
- Mike Fenley and Bo Parker each had seven kills
- Kosumpiinun led in assists with 29
- The Chaps had just four service aces with 18 service errors
- John Valencia led in digs with 11
