Chaps give Wilson No. 100

Standout performances glittered the Chaparrals' efforts Sunday afternoon in their Region 4 sweep over Prairie State, winning 14-2 in 5 innings and 7-0 at COD.

The victory in the opener gave five-year head coach Bobby Wilson his 100th career victory. The sweep now puts his overall record at 101-66-1.

The Chaps, now 14-5 overall, were scheduled to play at Madison on Monday, but due to inclement weather in southern Wisconsin, the doubleheader has been moved to April 19.

Game 1: Chaps 14, Prairie State 2 5 innings
David Marshall went 3-for-5 and drove in five runs, and RHP Justin Lane struck out eight without a walk in five innings as COD totaled 13 hits with five extra-base hits.
  • Marshall had an RBI single in the first, a two-run double in the second and a two-run double in the third
  • Joe Cosenza capped a nine-run third inning with a grand slam
  • Aden Aukland led off the third with a home run to left
  • Lane, after giving up two runs on four hits in the second, settled down and never was challenged. He retired 10 consecutive batters after giving up a two-run home run and a single in the second.
  • Kyle Fenner, Aukland, Cosenza and Jack Severino each had two-hit games
