Chaps' second-half rally falls short

The Chaparrals nearly came back from a 19-point deficit, but fell short in a 83-81 Region 4 men's basketball loss at Madison College on Tuesday night.
 
COD (13-9, 8-8 Region 4) takes on Bryant & Stratton on Thursday at PEC Arena. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
 
The host WolfPack took control early, gaining a 10-point lead and building their lead to 41-22 with 1:46 left in the half.
 
COD outplayed Madison in the second, thanks to the trio of John Gray III, Braylen Meredith and Jayden Dean. Gray III scored 22 of his 24 points in the final half and Meredith scored 15 of his 24 in the final 20 minutes as COD totaled 56 points in the half.
 
Dean scored 12 of his 16 in the second half and delivered a three near the buzzer.
 
The Chaps were 13 of 13 from the line in the second half and hit nine treys in the period with Gray III hitting four, Meredith three and Dean two.
 
Greg Strong also scored in double figures with 10.
