Sophomore
Josephine Becker's 18 kills and four blocks (two solos) paved the way for College of DuPage in its 3-1 victory over Harper in NJCAA Region 4 women's volleyball Thursday night.
The Chaps finished the regular season 19-14 overall, 15-5 in Region 4 play and 6-0 in Region 4 Division 3.
On Wednesday night, COD plays host to Joliet JC in the Region 4 D3 title match. First serve is at 6 p.m. and the champion moves on to play at the Region 12 opponent Nov. 2.
The Chaps earned a 25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 25-18 victory by simply outplaying the Hawks (19-19, 13-10 Region 4). COD compiled 50 kills on the night, and won in service aces (5 to 4).
In the opener, COD trailed as late as 23-21 before rallying for the victory. Harper took control in the second after the set was tied at 14-14. The Chaps and Hawks were tied at 10-10 in the third before COD caught fire. A 3-0 spurt immediately after that tie gave the Chaps the lead for good.
And in the fourth, COD rallied late. Down 17-17, COD earned side out and with setter
Ava Diaz serving, COD scored five straight points and moved on with the match victory.
Becker hit .353 on the night with 18 kills, six errors in 34 attacks.
Christina Savaglio also earned double-digit kills with 10.
Diaz served up 43 of COD's 47 assists.
Jayde Grant and
Francesca Brandonisio each had two aces.
Defensively, Brandonisio led in digs with 17 and
Rory Geroux 11.
Jillian Ross had three block assists.
The Chaps honored their sophomores, who played in their final regular-season home match. Honored were: Becker,
Camila Fundora, Geroux, Grant,
Daia Neerhof, Ross, Savaglio and
Alyssa Schillaci.
