The Chaparrals secured the opening-set victory in Tuesday night's match at Harper, but the host Hawks grabbed control afterward in handing the Chaps a 3-1 loss in NJCAA Region 4 volleyball.
 
The loss was just COD's second in Region 4 play as it takes a 15-10 overall, 11-2 Region 4 into Saturday's matches at South Suburban in its annual Dig Pink play. The Chaps face Olive Harvey at 9 a.m., followed by a non-region match against Kalamazoo Valley at 1.
 
Alexandra Hornbogen was the only Chap with double figures in kills with 10. Josephine Becker added eight and Skylar Huffman and Christina Savaglio each had five as COD hit .049 on the night (44 kills/36 errors/164 attacks).
 
Setter Ava Diaz had 27 of the Chaps' 43 assists. Libero Francesca Brandonisio led in service aces (three) and in digs with 22.
