Chaps' drive to the title comes to an end

An appearance in the NJCAA championship fell one match short Friday night as the Chaparrals were dealt a 3-0 loss to No. 2-seed Minnesota West in the Division III semifinals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Chaps (23-15) will take on No. 5-seed Century (Minn.) at 4 p.m. today for third place.

Minnesota West was in control throughout, sporting a 25-23, 25-20, 25-15 victory.

Freshman Sklar Huffman led the Chaps with 12 kills and Josephine Becker followed with 10.

COD led 21-17 in the opener, but its foe scored seven straight points and the team from Worthington, Minn., used that push for the duration of the match and COD could not answer.

Sophomore Jayde Grant secured all three of the Chaps' aces.

COD was stellar on the block with 18 block assists. Becker had five and Jillian Ross four.
