Merideth takes charge against Morton

Sophomore Braylen Meredith scored COD's final 11 points that included eight in the final 2:24 of play Saturday in the Chaparrals' come-from-behind 68-66 win at Morton College in NJCAA Region 4 men's basketball.

The Chaps (9-3, 5-3 Region 4) were scheduled to play tonight at home against Elmhurst JV. That game has been postponed. COD continues play Wednesday at Oakton (5-8, 5-5) and Friday afternoon at home against Carl Sandburg (7-5, 1-5). Tip is 3 p.m.

Meredith finished with a season-high 33 points with 22 in the second half. It was his second straight 30-point game after scoring 32 against Waubonsee on Dec. 12.

The Chaps, who trailed 40-33 at halftime, played well in the second half and made their run with 2:24 left and down, 64-60.

Meredith hit a layup, then added a pair of free throws and the game was tied at 64-64 with 2:09.

Morton (6-6, 4-3) earned its final lead of the night on a layup on its next possession and remained out front until Meredith added two more free throws with 50 seconds left, tied at 66.

Meredith hit the game-winner on a layup with six seconds left.

He was 9-of-14 from the field with three 3s and a 12-of-14 effort from the line. He led in rebounds with 10 for his second double-double on the season.

Freshman Payton Moore followed with 14 points with four 3s. Ramone Enis was next with seven points.
