COD grabbed an early lead in its match against the Saint Xavier junior varsity and fought through a back-and-forth second set in the Chaparrals' 3-1 loss (25-19, 23-25, 21-25, 17-25) to the Cougars in men's volleyball Wednesday night.

The opener saw five ties until COD earned control. At 11-11 and with
Blake Huberty serving, the Chaps scored five straight points, and then later extended the lead to 22-16 before winning 25-19.

In the second, COD led 14-10 and at 20-19, before the Cougars rallied with four straight points and then held off the Chaps.

Huberty led with 10 kills, two aces, six digs and give block assists for 14.5 points.
Justus Barbel added seven kills, six digs and three block assists for 8.5 points.
Mike Fenley had six kills and three digs with a block assist in two sets.

Osiel Cruz had five kills.
