Tylon Toliver led the No. 6-seed Chaparrals with 23 points, but host and No. 3 Bryant & Stratton controlled much of the game in a 74-61 victory in NJCAA II Region 4 Midwest District B quarterfinal men's basketball Thursday night.
Â
Toliver hit 7 of 12 field goals with a pair of 3-pointers and scored on all seven free throw attempts as the Chaps closed the season at 17-13 overall.
Â
Bryant & Stratton (22-9) now moves on to face No. 2-seed Rock Valley in semifinal play Sunday in Rockford.
Â
The Chaps, who trailed for all but 30 seconds, made a run to get back into the game late in the first half.
Â
Trailing 36-21 with 2:39 left, COD freshman
Braylen Meredith hit a 3-pointer that opened a 9-0 run.
Â
The run included a
John Gray III layup, and Toliver added a jumper and a pair of free throws in that stretch to put the deficit at six at halftime, 36-30.
Â
But the Bobcats grabbed control to open the second half, outscoring the Chaps 15-5 in the opening four minutes and maintained the lead for the remainder of the game.
Â
Meredith scored 15 with four rebounds. Gray III scored nine and led in assists with four.
Greg Strong also scored nine points.
