Forty-six Chaparrals and two programs were named to the 2023-24 NJCAA All-Academic teams, the NJCAA announced today.
Student-athletes were recognized on three individual honors' teams, based on a minimum grade point average of 3.60.
The Chaps were represented with 10 student-athletes on the first team, achieving a 4.0 GPA for the two semesters. Both second team (3.80-3.99) and third-team members (3.60-3.79) each had 18 Chaparrals.
The two teams meeting a minimum of 3.0 GPA were: men's cross country (3.18) and men's golf (3.04).
"Congratulations to our 46 Chaparrals and two teams earning NJCAA academic acclaim,'' Director of Athletics and Recreation Ryan Kaiser said. "Academic excellence is a priority among our 21 programs and we celebrate their efforts. We laud the dedication of our student-athletes, and the work done by our coaches and counselors, who work tirelessly in assisting our Chaps in reaching academic goals.''
The Chaparrals boast a 31.4-percent improvement over last year's honors squads.
"Our student-athletes are continuing to strive for greatness both in the classroom and in their respective sports,'' said Kelsey Plefka, assistant AD for student eligibility and services. "It has been a pleasure over the last year to really get to know our student-athletes better and learn how best to assist them in reaching their full potential. I am especially excited that the number of individuals who earned NJCAA academic honors in 2023-24 increased from the previous year! I look forward to working closer with our athletes in the upcoming academic year to help them achieve their academic goals and increase that number even further for 2024-25.''
Baseball, football and men's track and field each had seven members honored. Seventeen sports are represented.
