The Chaparrals withstood a gutty effort from visiting Oakton in Region 4 volleyball Tuesday night, earning a 3-0 victory at PEC Arena.
 
COD, now 12-9 overall and 8-1 Region 4 play, is at Whitewater at Rock County on Thursday.
 
The 29-27, 25-23, 26-24 victory centered on COD's ability to build a lead, lose momentum and then regain a decisive edge. Sophomore Alexandra Hornbogen supplied the offense for COD, earning a season-high 16 kills with just three errors in 34 attacks, a .382 attack percentage.
 
In the opener, COD built a 17-9 lead, only to have the Owls respond with a 15-7 run to tie the set at 24-24. Four more ties took place until the Chaps earned the necessary two-point lead for the win.
 
The back-and-forth second set, which was tied at 20-20, found COD earning an advantage late for the win.
 
And in the third, COD fought back from a 24-20 deficit, reeling off six straight points for the match victory.
 
"Alexandra showed improvement tonight and we needed her effort on offense for the win,'' head coach Tolis Koskinaris said. "She changed positions to opposite, and she's responded well. Tonight was proof positive of her hard work and solid attitude.''
 
Ava Diaz had 34 of the Chaps' 40 assist. Both Alyssa Schillaci and Francesca Brandonisio had four service aces and Brandonisio led on defense with 22 digs from her libero position.
 
Christina Savaglio followed with 17 digs, Diaz added 12 and Camila Fundora 10.
