The College of DuPage women's tennis team earned their second win of the season on Oct. 2, taking down Elgin Community College 5-4.
"It's a great accomplishment for our student-athletes to beat a team that is heavily recruited," head coach
Jim Bowers said. "Our players are balancing academics, work, and tennis, so for them to come way with wins is remarkable."
Semra Jadadic picked up a dominant 6-1, 6-2 singles win, while
Kathy Johns earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory with steady groundstroke play. "Kathy has been a tremendous asset and someone everyone counts on with her consistency," Bowers said.
Ava Bartels fells 6-1, 6-2, while
Lily Caron battled into a super tiebreak before falling 10-7. COD also benefited from defaults at two singles spots, where
Lexi Olofsson and
Martina Ulloa were awarded wins.
In doubles, Bartels and Jadadic dropped a narrow 8-6 decision after leading 6-3.
"We have a week to strategize before regionals," Bowers said. "With hard work and determination, we think we can make a splash."
The Chaps will compete in the NJCAA Region IV Tournament on Oct. 10 and 11.
