Sophomore Night went off without a hitch as the Chaparrals soundly defeated their only Region 4 opponent, Bryant and Stratton 3-0 in men's volleyball Friday night.
Sophomore
Kevin Jones led the Chaps with 12 kills and freshman
Brayden Tejeda chipped in 10 in COD's 25-16, 25-21, 28-26 victory. The win extends COD's winning streak to four as it takes an 18-2 overall record into Tuesday night's match at St. Xavier JV.
COD hit .215 on the night (38 kills, 18 errors, 93 attacks) as it took the opener from the start. The Chaps led 13-4 and stayed comfortably ahead.
In the second, the teams were tied four times and it seemed that the visiting Bobcats had the edge when they led 16-12.
The Chaps answered back, outscoring Bryant and Stratton 10-4 and held the edge for the two sets lead entering the third.
Tied at 20-20, the Bobcats held set-points twice (25-24 and 26-25), but coach
Tolis Koskinaris' crew were not to be denied, scoring three straight points to win the set and match.
Sophomore setter
Nathan Perez led in assists with 28 and both
Ben Hoover and
Derek Dappert each had four service aces.
Defensively, Hoover led in digs with 10 and
Leo Ainger nine.
Justus Barbel, Jones, Tejeda and Dappert all had one solo block.
