Women's Tennis drop match at Moraine Valley

The College of DuPage women's tennis team continued its season Sept. 16, traveling to Moraine Valley Community College for its second match of the year.

DuPage's lone win came at No. 4 singles, where 66-year-old freshman Kathy Johns earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

"Once again, Kathy showed great poise and creativity on the court against a hard-hitting freshman from Moraine who could run like a rabbit," head coach Jim Bowers said. "Kathy was able to move her around and tire her out, and when she needed to, she'd surprise her opponent with a powerful ground stroke or a delicate lob. It was fun to watch."

At No. 2 doubles, Lexi Olofsson and Johns notched a respectable result, falling 8-4.

Overall, Bowers mentioned, "We made strides with better shot selection and good awareness on where to stand and move during points, but we still need to work on staying consistent with our ground strokes from the back court and improving placement on our serves."

The Chaparrals return home for their next few matches. They face Waubonsee Community College on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 3:30pm.
